Across the country and here in RI, the number of grandparents, other relatives, and family friends caring for children has grown exponentially. These caregivers are often referred to as kinship caregivers. This Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families funded program provides multiple monthly support groups for kinship caregivers. These groups offer kinship families an opportunity to talk, share, ask questions, and receive support from one another. Groups are facilitated by staff with clinical and/or lived experience. Groups are confidential and free of charge.
Our next virtual workshop is coming up on Monday, August 19 from 6-7:30pm and will discuss how kinship care fits into child welfare. To register and receive the Zoom link, contact Angela Gomes by 4pm on the 18th at AGomes@adoptionri.org.
Watch for a list of meeting dates through the end of the year to be posted here soon.
