Community Involvement

Community Involvement with Adoption Rhode Island comes in all kinds of ways. We are grateful to have so many members of the community helping us help the children and although we can not list them all, here are a few examples of how are community partners are helping us….

Ad Council’s Adoption from Foster Care Campaign!
We did it!! The votes have been tallied to determine the winner of #MarchADness2017 is . . . Adoption from Foster Care!
Thank you so much to everyone who voted and all of the incredible campaigns selected to compete in each round. We are hopeful that the votes this campaign has garnered is indicative of the increased support Americans have for adoption from foster care and the belief that adoption from foster care is a mutually beneficial way to build a family.
Adopting a child or teen from foster care can be a daunting idea, and potential parents are vulnerable and can have a lot of doubts. In order to encourage the adoption of youth from foster care, the Adoption from Foster Care campaign has taken a humorous approach in order to reassure potential adoptive parents that “you don’t have to be perfect to be a perfect parent.” (including scenarios some of us have actually lived, such as the one below!) Since the campaign’s launch in 2004,the Ad Council, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services , AdoptUSKids, and the creative agency Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal + Partners have helped to place almost 25,000 children with permanent adoptive families.

However, there is still work to do. There are currently 112,000 children and teens in the U.S. foster care system waiting to be adopted. The newest television and radio PSAs, launched in late 2016, highlight the need to find loving and stable families for youth in foster care. Help us spread the word to ensure children in care find their forever families and enjoy the childhood they deserve!

Thank You David Silverman for Caring about Kids in Care!
The day was simply SUPER thanks to David Silverman of David Silverman Photography who, once again donated his time and talent to bring joy, laughs, and perhaps even their own inner empowerment to over 40 children currently in state care waiting for permanency.

Our office was filled with the smiling faces of 40+ children all here to get photos taken by professional photographer and friend of Adoption RI, David Silverman. David has volunteered his services for a few years now offering, not only professional quality photos for our website, but a day where siblings and friends separated in care can come hang out, have fun, create memories and in the case of his most recent shoot, dress up as super heroes! Oh, and the laughter!!! No one makes kids laugh and actually enjoy getting their picture taken like David can. Each child will get copies of their photos to help remember this special day. (Some even include photos of themselves wearing a Patriots Super Bowl ring, as David is a photographer for the NE Patriots!) We cannot thank David enough for his commitment to our mission and his compassion for each and every child he meets each time he provides this opportunity for children in care to show a little more of their personality to prospective families!
