Information & Resources

Thank you for seeking information about adoption. Creating a family through adoption is an exciting, challenging, and hopeful process. Children in foster care are especially in need of forever families. We believe that all children are able to grow to their potential when they have loving families committed to them forever.

There are many resources in Rhode Island to help you as you travel the road towards becoming an adoptive family. At Adoption Rhode Island, we will help you get in touch with those resources. We have information, books, videos, and experienced staff, all here to make the adoption process a little easier and support you along the way, as well as post adoption.

This ‘Considering Adoption’ section of our website contains helpful information about the process of adopting a child. Below are additional educational materials about adoption in Rhode Island that make up our ‘Information Packet’. Please click on the links of interest to read or print this information. We hope all of this will answer some of your most basic questions, however, after you have read through everything feel free to call our office and speak to a member of our staff if you have any additional questions.

Remember, if you have any questions or would like to talk to someone about adoption please contact us at 401-865-6000 or complete our Contact Form.

The Basic Process
In order to be considered for adoption you must have attended the 8-10 week adoption preparation classes and have a completed homestudy. Find licensed agencies in Rhode Island that can help you with that.

If you are interested in adopting a child or learning more about the process, the next step is to attend an information meeting. Dates and locations of upcoming meetings are shown on our Informational Meetings page.
