Perhaps you have been considering adoption but aren’t sure where or how to begin. Adoption Rhode Island can help you through the process of adopting a child from Rhode Island state care. Although most are school-age children, generally between the ages of 5 and 18, an increasing number of younger children are coming in to care as well. Many of the children have experienced some degree of neglect or abuse. While currently living in a foster or group home, these children deeply want a chance for love in a happy, permanent family setting. We invite married and single adults of any race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation to apply to adopt a child from state care. Most importantly, we are looking for families that can make a life-long commitment to provide a safe, loving home to a child. There is no cost to adopt any of these children.
Please take a few minutes to listen to Beth Capron, Manager of Adoption & Permanency Services at Adoption RI, to learn more about becoming a pre-adoptive family and the processes that follow.

Other types of adoption include domestic infant adoption, international adoption, and independent adoption. If you are interested in adopting an infant domestically you may want to work with an adoption agency, as the number of infants registered with Adoption RI is few. The Resources section of this site lists a number of licensed Rhode Island agencies that can help you with an infant adoption. If you are interested in adopting an infant or older child from another country, international adoption may be right for you. Once again, check our list of licensed Rhode Island agencies to find an agency that handles international adoptions. Independent adoption involves identifying a child through private means and working with an attorney to arrange the adoption.
Whichever path you choose, we wish you much happiness on your journey. Adoption is a wonderful way to build a family!
